Teddy Pendergrass dead at 59

Teddy Pendergrass, paralyzed since '82, has passed away in Philadelphia at the age of 59. Teddy Pendergrass worked local Philly clubs and later became drummer and vocalist for Harold Melvin's Bluenotes in 1969. Pendergrass went solo in 1976.

Teddy's popularity grew to the point where he had all-women concerts throughout the world, which routinely sold out. In 1982 Pendergrass was involved in a car accident that left him paralyzed. Recently Teddy Pendergrass had been battling Colon Cancer. The singer's son said his father died at a hospital in suburban Philadelphia. The singer underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had "a difficult recovery," his son said.
