HOUSE APPROVES JOB-CREATING ‘HIRE ACT’

WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act:

“Today my colleagues and I passed the HIRE Act which will help put Americans back to work and strengthen our economy. This measure allocates funds for municipal construction projects that will save or create well paying jobs in communities across the country. It provides incentives for hiring and retaining employees and extends existing job creation benefits for American businesses. HIRE also adheres to PAYGO budgetary principles and will be offset by spending decreases elsewhere.

“Today’s bill is part of a larger Jobs Agenda focused on getting Americans back to work. The Recovery Act is already helping to create economic growth, stem the tide of job losses and increase output across the country. As economists of all stripes will attest, job creation almost always lags behind the economy. This bill will expedite our country’s return to a robust economy. I applaud my friends in Congress today for taking this necessary step.”
