TALKERS Magazine Publisher Michael Harrison Delivers ‘State of Talk Media’ Address
story by Talkers
At the first joint Radio Show produced by the National Association of Broadcasters and the Radio Advertising Bureau, TALKERS magazine publisher Michael Harrison delivered his annual “State of Talk Media” address to a packed room of media pros composed of a cross-section of industry leaders.
Harrison’s presentation was an elucidation of his “10 Principles of 21st Century Media Every Broadcaster Should Know” that was the foundation of his recent column in the September print edition of TALKERS magazine. Harrison’s controversial-yet-compelling case that the traditional 30- and 60-second spot and the commercial stop set is quickly becoming archaic and detrimental to radio – not just talk radio – drew intense interest.
Concern about how the PPM is impacting talk radio is high and Harrison discussed how the loss of the diary method and the associated loyalty factor in major and large markets combined with the troubles created by the long spot set are affecting talk’s TSL in the PPM era.
Additionally, Harrison further explained the case he’s been making for years both at industry events and in the pages of TALKERS magazine and on its website that radio’s continued survival is contingent upon the medium producing the best and most compelling product that can be found nowhere else.
