Radio One founder Cathy Hughes inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame this Saturday
This year's Radio Hall Of Fame class includes Cathy Hughes, founder of Lanham-based urban radio giant Radio One.
Born in Omaha and started in radio there, before moving to Washington DC's WHUR. Ms. Hughes is credited with pioneering the Quiet Storm format, used throughout the world on Radio Stations and the Internet.
In 1980 Cathy Hughes bought WOL-AM, the first station of today's Radio One group, which is now celebrating 30 years.
Radio One went public in 1999 and now owns more than 50 stations, along with its TV One cable subsidiary and other interests such as the Syndication One New-Talk Network, Reach Media, and Interactive One. The 2010 Radio Hall of Fame Ceremony is this Saturday in Chicago, Il. See you there.
