Radio Industry has high hopes with the new 112th Congress
story by Inside Radio
Issues that the National Association of Broadcasters, Broadcast Owners, and other Radio groups are fighting for, or against Congress, are:
1. Re-introduction of the Performance Rights Act piting radio against the record labels.
2. Updating the 1996 Telecommunications Act.
3. A newly introduced bill by Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Oh) requiring Radio (and TV) broadcastres to Provide "FREE" Broadcasting time for political advertising.
NAB's President/CEO and H.L.I.C. (head lobbiest in charge) Gordon Smith is "Optimistic" about the new Congress. Two years have now passed since Smith left the Senate, so he will be able to directly lobby on Capitol Hill.
