The professional tennis star was forced to remove a half-naked picture of herself hours after she used it as her avatar Twitter, amid online outcry. The 29-year-old initially put the saucy snap of her posing in high heels and wearing matching lingerie up on Thursday.

And while the sportswoman's silhouette was concealed by the veil of a sheer curtain, criticism quickly followed, with many deeming the posting irresponsible following a man being arrested for stalking her, after following her every move on the social networking site.

Serena Williams has certainly given people something to tweet about.
