National Urban League President promises Green Jobs

Earth Day Action Alert

Dear Friend:

Today is probably the most important Earth Day ever. Its significance is derived from the fact that a "green" lifestyle is no longer just a choice. Now a "green" lifestyle is a necessity. Green jobs, an increasingly green economy, and a global environment that demands responsibility and energy innovation signals a new era of awareness and action. At the National Urban League, we are not only embracing the "greening" effect, we are developing ways for it to mean healthier and wealthier communities across the board. We're Empowered for Earth Day 2010 and celebrating the 40th anniversary with one billion people worldwide at http://iamempowered.com/ .

Already, the effects of the green movement are being felt in communities at all levels. That is why it was important for us to talk with the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson about the Obama administration's plans to create green jobs and engage a changing world. Administrator Jackson lays out her priorities for the EPA in an exclusive interview at http://iamempowered.com/ . As part of our centennial activities, we will be engaged in an ongoing "green" focus that will reach a fever pitch during our Centennial Conference in Washington this summer.

At the grassroots level, we are inspired by Green Ambassadors like high school senior Jordan Howard from Los Angeles. A speaker, author and National Eco-Champion, Jordan is a catalytic leader in her community and Environmental Charter High School. We are broadcasting a live webinar, at 1PM EDT, hosted by Jordan at http://iamempowered.com/empowered-for-earth-day-2010/ . Learn more about this phenomenal young leader at her website at http://jordaninspires.com. You'll be inspired (and impressed) and learn how young people and the National Urban League are getting involved, making a difference, and leading on this issue. You will be hearing from Jordan on environmental issues for years to come.

We also want to commend Disney, one of the world's leading studios, as it releases Oceans, its second effort to call attention to the beauty, fragility and grandeur of our planet. Click on this link http://iamempowered.com/empowered-for-earth-day-2010  to watch the trailer and see for yourself how "green" content is being released around the world today to coincide with Earth Day 2010. Celebrate Earth Day 2010 with us at http://iamempowered.com/empowered-for-earth-day-2010/  where we've gathered positive and EMPOWERING content to inform and inspire you to act.

Many activities are taking place today among countless groups and communities. I encourage you to get involved and make a difference wherever you are and wherever the need exists. It is time for us to get serious about the environment and the opportunities that are being created in this emerging sector.

I AM EMPOWERED,

Marc Morial
President and CEO
National Urban League
