CLYBURN STATEMENT ON AUGUST JOBS REPORT AND RECOGNITION OF LABOR DAY
WASHINGTON – At the start of Labor Day weekend, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement after the Department of Labor released a stronger than expected jobs report for August.
“The August jobs report confirmed that our economy continues to recover from the worst recession since the Great Depression and the loss of eight million jobs under the Bush Administration. The addition of 67,000 private sector jobs – the eighth straight month of private sector job growth – again confirms that the economic policies enacted by the Democratic Congress and President Obama are working. However, the overall decline of job numbers in August is a fresh reminder that our mission is not complete.
“Democrats will continue fighting for Main Street, and will work to pass legislation that creates jobs for hard-working Americans, provides small businesses with the tools to drive our recovery and advance our Make it in America agenda that will boost the manufacturing sector.
“As we approach Labor Day, I am reminded of the spirit and dedication of American workers, the resiliency of the middle class, and the pride of America’s small businesses which have always been the backbone of our economy. At this critical moment in our economic recovery, we must continue to do what is necessary to help the American people and move our economy forward.”
