Solomon Burke Dies
The Soul Music legend Solomon Burke dies. He was 70. Burke wrote and recorded such classic songs as “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love,” “Cry To Me,” and “Got To Get You Off My Mind.” And his breakthrough song, “Just Out Of Reach (Of My Two Open Arms),” is often considered a keystone record in the early ‘60s transition from R and B to “Soul”. Solomon Burke is credited with first utilizing the term "Soul Music".
Burke was both a Grammy winner and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was an acclaimed singer and writer, whose fans included many renowned musicians. He died in Amsterdam on Sunday, where he was scheduled to perform.
