Ron Isley is a national treasure. If you don’t think so, consider that he’s one of the very few artists in black music history who’ve remained relevant for over five decades. The 69-year-old crooner was a hit not just with his famous brothers and Jimi Hendrix, but with artists like R. Kelly and Li’l Kim.

After a stint in jail for tax evasion, Isley is back again - with Lauryn Hill this time - for a soulful remake of “Close To You,” the 1963 hit made famous by The Carpenters.

After such an illustrious career, it’s no wonder that the Soul Train Music Awards will hand Isley a Lifetime Achievement Award on their Centric telecast on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 9 p.m. EST.

Singer Anita Baker will also be honored. Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson will return as hosts.
